Take a look at the fun we had at our 1st annual Guided Cycling Tour Fund Raiser for ACE and Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia!
We had 12 cyclists rolling through Arlington streets checking out the ACE Green Home & Garden Tour. Here is a little photo documentary of the event. Enjoy!
Registration took place at the Arlington Oaks Condos where we were also able to check out some rain gardens and rain barrel applications.
We rolled on over to an amazing DWR remodel in South Arlington to check out their full scale remodel. It was quite a site to see a dozen cyclist pull up! The architect was happy to see us viewing the homes “the truly green way!” From rain chains to low-e glazing, this home was decked out and immaculately designed inside and out!
Here’s my bike… “Nancy” the beach cruiser which everyone came to love to hate since she slows everyone down. Not me… the bike (since it only coasts and has no gears). Isn’t it pretty, though?!
Another full scale remodel getting closer to Columbia Pike. This remodel’s original homeowner was there to walk us through the step by step process and discuss the geothermal technology they employed in the home. It seemed to me a fairly high performance home!
This rain garden in Douglas Park is actually a wildlife sanctuary, as well! The homeowner notes that he has a little red fox that lives on the side of his garage! Towering trees and native Virginia plants made his wildlife garden a spectacular way to wrap up the tour on our bikes before heading back down the Walter Reed hill to the WO&D trail!
Thanks so much to everyone who participated in the first annual green home and garden guided cycling tour! We raised awareness for Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia as well as our partners, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment and even got some people out on bikes for a beautiful day.
