This year, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment has a Guided Bike Tour option for their annual Green Home and Garden Tour which will have you seeing Arlington in a new light- a Green One!
Some folks do a 5K to bring attention to their wonderful cause. Some folks do a marathon to find a cure. Some folks cycle to view original green homes and garden properties to raise awareness and funds for their organization. With the help of myself, Helen Kraus of New World Title, Lawrence Nightengale of Home Energy Detectives, and the amazing guidance of Jenn Truong of Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment, we have put together a new an innovative way to raise money for Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia in Arlington.
Helen and I were having coffee a few months back talking about Northern Virginia Real Estate in general and how much fun I had at the last Habitat for Humanity build that Helen had coordinated through her title company and I thought, why don’t we see if we can put together something cool and exciting for our friends in Arlington who are interested in learning more about how they can give back to their community and maybe even have some fun while they are doing it.
From that, spawned a conversation about how Helen teaches a spin class… and then we started talking about how awesome it would be to do a home tour from our bikes. “You know what?!” I thought… “The ACE Green Home and Garden Tour is coming up… I bet we could get some butts on bikes and even have a fund-raiser for Habitat for Humanity in the meantime!” Helen was totally psyched, and then two days later, I got a call from Lawrence who was putting together a cycling home tour of his own that was to feature homes for sale that were bike-commuter friendly. This was perfect! We were totally going to be able to collaborate! So, the first annual Green Home and Garden guided bike tour was born! Jenn Truong of ACE has been an absolute gem in helping us to collaborate with the program and sweet Melissa Raley of Habitat for Humanity has also been a trooper!Lawrence went above and beyond and created the guided tour map and plotted the areas as to where we were going to stop and the safest bike friendly routes; I even told him I was going to make him a cape because he is super!
We hope to see you all out there, Sunday, June 5 from 1pm-5pm on your bikes with your safety gear- ready to have some fun while raising awareness for Habitat for Humanity! Just by hopping on your bike, donating $25 to the cause you and yours can have a grand old time with your fellow cycling enthusiasts while seeing our community in a different spin.
