We are totally getting to know the pizza places around our neighborhood… want the dish- I mean the slice?
Who doesn’t love a good slice of pizza? You hear about the war between Chicago deep dish or the New York thin crust, and I just have to say, keep it close to the Columbia Pike Corridor or the Orange Line in Arlington, please. Being in the Nauck / Douglas Park area just above Shirlington in Arlington, Va, not too many places deliver to us, but we are still discovering what is good and here are some of our favorites in no particular order:
Flippin’ Pizza– ok, so this is totally over in Annadale, but we are driving all of the way over there to pick up the Artichoke pizza, because it is flippin’ awesome. There is also a location in Falls Church that we’ve driven to to pick up this fix. Good New York Style pizza- we just wish they delivered to our ‘hood.
Pete’s New Haven– Over on the Orange Line in Clarendon, this little chain just opened up across from Circa and Restaurant 3 in Clarendon. Their pizzas are huge, 18″ and are really yummy. We’ve done 1/2 and 1/2 of the Elm and the Green and the hubby likes the Staven, which is super-meaty, and I’m not a fan of that, but to each their own.
Lost Dog Cafe– Columbia Pike-holla-… they delivah…. We totally love the Lost Dog, not just because they will bring you a really good pizza, but a milkshake, too! Oh, and salad. They have a really nice staff and this local chain makes me happy. Being from a place where entrepreneurship means quite a bit, I am a fan of this chain, the people, and the food. I like the Pedigree pie, the Greek salad and the artichoke spinach. The hubby gets the pepperoni and black olive.
Z Pizza– The so-called Pure One… Hmmmm….I am still wrapping my brain around these folks. They do deliver, but it takes them forever. They also do vegan pizza, which was great when we had a vegan visitor and they also are all about sustainability. I love that so, Z pizza gets a high five.
Fireworks– A Clarendon/ Courthouse newbie which is ok on service and super-yummy on pizza. It is fireworks because it is wood fired. Meh… I think I will have to give them another couple of tries!
Extra Virgin– A Shirlington favorite with a fabulous Margharita pizza. Who doesn’t love Shirlington, especially as it gets warmer and the adorably charming bistro sets open up outside and you can totally people watch. It almost feels motto bene Italiano. The only problemo is that they don’t do pizza on the weekends, and that is usually we want to go pick it up. They are really good at the brick oven style pizzas, slightly pricey, but very delicious.
Yeah, I know it is weird to mix food and real estate, but not really… food is somewhat comforting, homes are the ultimate in comfort and pizza… hello… super-comfort food. If you ever are looking for the dish on Northern Virginia Real Estate, drop me a line... I’m happy to help!
