If you haven’t heard about Outstanding in the Field… local, farm-fresh foodies… prepare yourselves for awesomeness!
I have some pretty outstanding friends. I have some pretty food-centric friends, too. I have some friends who have made it their mission to tie together the sustainable with the lovely with the enjoyable and it sounds like the people at Outstanding in the Field have done so themselves. I had never heard of this project before, but after enjoying a delightful dinner at DC based Oyamel a few weeks ago with my friend Laurie who had just come back from Maine and who was just so lucky to have experienced Outstanding in the field, she described to me, in explicit detail her experience with this beautiful organization which brings the concept of seasonal, farm-fresh, local foods and high-end cuisine to the most intriguing locations around the country, and it seems to be making its way towards the DC Metro area.
I love to highlight sustainability in restauranteurs. In Arlington, I push our friends at Lyon Hall, Liberty Tavern, Northside Social, Java Shack, Screwtop Bar and the like since they are socially and environmentally responsible businesses in our community. Now this is a cool little tid-bit: did you know that our very own president of the United States ate at Liberty Tavern Last night? Well he did; it has been confirmed! I love that these entrepreneurs bring a facet of sustainable, healthier living to our community in a way that isn’t preachy, nor is it overly glamorous. I love that Northside Social even has biodynamic wines on their list; go and ask their highly educated staff about what this means to the environment. The answer is pretty darn cool. It seems that Outstanding in the Field has been able to take the food truck craze along with farm-fresh-local and Top Chef quality to make an amazing experience for their guests.
All I can say is that I would love the opportunity to do this sort of event. Who doesn’t want to be surrounded by scenery like what these folks find and the fine people that they muster together to have a fun-filled dining experience of foods straight from the good earth?!
