Re- purposing for a Party: Thrift Store finds can still “Class Up” a party!

A few months ago my best friend requested that I be her Maid of Honor. She stated that my task was to plan a bachelorette party for her. I said that I would be delighted and started to plan her party.
The first thing I thought about was what to use for the dishes & linens. The last time I was in a party supply store I noted how costly everything was, also it was a one time usage & often was not made in the USA. I was going to “class up” her party, for not a lot of money. The hunt was on for stemware, plates, napkins & such. It took a few weeks to get some beautiful pieces together.
Checking in at my local community thrift stores I found cocktail glas
ses with birds, and a copper chaffing dish for under $10. Another trip I found etched crystal stemware, bread and butter plates, and some clear glass plates for a “donation” which I gave $15. Upon further research at home, the goblets and bread and butter plates were worth over $150!
My favorite find was a set of 8 iridescent Depression-era glass for $5 at our community garage sale. There were so many wonderful vintage and antique treasures to be found that I had plenty for the party and didn’t have to go too terribly far out of the way to find the goodies. After getting all of the glassware together I dug out some linens that had been purchased at an estate sale, and had never been used. This completed my look!
When it was time for the party, the appetizers and cocktails looked beautiful. It was so nice to have real plates, not plastic! The bride was so impressed and so where the guests! It’s nice to see a well dressed table on a budget! The best part is the community thrift store will benefit from my re-donation of the items.
