What makes the subterranean level of a home so appealing that sometimes it is the deciding factor on weather a buyer will or will not write a contract on a property?
Basements for many homeowners are used as as a place to hide holiday decor or unruly teenagers. But is it truly a necessity?I actually grew up in a townhouse that did not have a basement, instead it had a crawl space which I found very terrifying. Now I live in a single family home and I can't imagine my life without it. My husband and I enjoy having a separate "entertaining" space and "entertainment" space. However with houses becoming more energy efficient and the concept of aging in place, a basement is no longer a necessity to improve your quality of life.
