Day 19:
How do you make your home healthier on the inside?
There are many ways to do this, some of the easier things to do, use your ventilation the way it is meant to, when you take a shower, make sure the vent is on to exhaust the moisture, and same for when you boil water. If you have leaking windows, air seal them. If you can put in more solid surfaces for flooring that are naturally sealed, do that.
Choose lower Volatile organic compounds (Low VOC paints and chemicals when resurfacing). Choose materials such as quartzite/ Silestone/Caesarstone which have silver ions in them and are anti-microbial (so is bamboo, by the way). Use a pleated media air filter and Change your air filter as suggested, and have your HVAC serviced to maintain its health and yours! Keep water flowing AWAY from your foundation to keep your home from standing water seeping, and grade landscaping away from your home to keep water from intruding.
Use less natural gas and if you do have gas, make sure you’re monitoring for carbon monoxide and that you don’t have appliances that are drafting it back inside. Work with a team of professionals who know about these things and can help you navigate this from the outset or who can help you once you’re inside the home to get it healthy once you’re inside!
