While we are all in our homes, figuring out next steps, there is likely a feeling of confinement- I know, bad quarantine pun- but really, in our homes, in our own minds… How do we escape that?
Well, the answer is simple. We escape the confinement by doing the things that we have been putting off and by simply doing. Emerson’s quote sums it up for me at this point in time: Do the thing, have the power; do not the thing, have not the power. Here are some ideas on how to “have the power” in multiple facets of our daily lives as we muddle through this unique time, together/apart.
For our homes: Whether it is organizing a box of photos, or decluttering the closet, garage (insert whatever it may be), there are a multitude of tasks we have likely been procrastinating, because we haven’t made the time to do it. In our homes, we can now put these things on the forefront, and either chip away at them, or do them in their entirety.
For our businesses: The likelihood that putting your expense report and true profit and loss statement together has been a daunting task. Can you sit down and do the full analysis of this right now? How about a review of the big picture to see how you can streamline things to start stockpiling cash? This is something that translates between both business and personal.
For our minds: Whether you are one who is always in the gym (or like me, and one who doesn’t make the appropriate time for this), what better time that to start getting outside for routine walks round the block, since we can’t go to the gym, or find the online streaming video on how to tone up so we can feel our very best, because how we feel on the inside radiates to the outside. What about reading some of the stockpiled books? Jeff Olson’s Slight Edge, or John Assraf’s The Answer or Chris Voss’ Never Split the Difference are all on my list and I’m finishing out Never Split the Difference right now while completing the Questing Based Selling, which I really cannot find myself getting totally into, to be honest.
For our people: Reach out. Find new ways to make sure you keep connected. If you haven’t been one to call, text. If you haven’t been one to use Zoom or GoToMeeting, find a way. We are social animals, we humans. It means so much to people for them to just know that you care. Spend time the way we can right now. The little things, even just in terms of how we can let people know we are trying, are the most impactful, until we know how we can really make a difference. Be kind.
We are here for you, and are doing what we have always done in business, just like we have taken care of many of our deployed clients over the last decade-plus. We adapt, we pivot, we innovate, but right now, we just hope everyone knows that we’re here for you and we care. Let us know if there is anything we can do for you.
