In our area of Northern Virginia, we see many homes being razed for the sake of a new home being built over the top of it. Some people wonder why we do that so often in Arlington, Falls Church, Vienna and McLean. The answer is more often than not due to the fact that homes are not quite built for the way that we currently live, and they certainly aren’t built to current codes and energy standards.
The great thing is that there are builders out there who do a splendid job of working with organizations who will recycle many of the components of the older homes which require to be taken down. Below is an example of a home in Portland, Oregon that was built out of many recycled and salvaged materials. The wonderful thing is that it is not only functional, but also beautiful.
