Thrift store find into jewelry organizer
The last time, Cowgirl Gardener, Margeaux Denham, invited us into her award winning food musings and lifestyle on the range to find out how to make some recycled feed bags into totes and carriers for firewood. Now she shares a bit about how she can do more with upcycling than you could have imagined! If you’re like her, you can probably relate to a lot of these things and what it means to have a “bit of trash” that could really be a treasure, maybe even your own treasure. Breathe new life into something, instead of taking it to the landfill! How about some up-cycling or even just a good ole-rehabilitation?! Enjoy!
Every thrift store has a pile of old, used picture frames with potential; maybe you even have one in your storage space. Things you will need: a frame, paint, a paint brush, school glue, 2 packages of cup screws, wood for new design, paper, tissue, old cards, use your imagination!
This project can be perfect for kids with some supervision. First glue down paper to wood using 1 to 3 ratio of glue to water. Secure paper or clippings layering the paper. When you have the design you want paint a layer of glue over the whole project to protect and seal it. Allow adequate drying time for glue before handling.
Now, mark out where you want your screws use a thumbtack to start holes before screwing in your screws. It will make it easier to screw in your wood. In the mean time prep your frame by wiping it free of dust, remove artwork or glass then paint the frame and allow to dry.
Put your frame and new board back together and admire your new organizer! – Margeaux
