Gear your pets up for cooler weather:
The last time, Cowgirl Gardener, Margeaux Denham, invited us into her award winning food musings and lifestyle on the range to find out how to update your outdated or “patina” having outdoor furniture; now she shares a bit about how she can do more with Burlap than stuff a scarecrow! If you’re like her, you can probably relate to a lot of these things and what it means to have a tired old dog bed that needs some re-fluffing… but not with that awful poly-blend stuffing. Breathe new life into it, instead of taking it to the landfill! How about some up-cycling or even just a good ole-rehabilitation?! Enjoy!
Burlap, it isn’t just for potato sacks anymore!
Are you tired of buying dog beds? Here is a simple idea to weather-proof for your beloved pets.
I know in the past year our household has purchased six pet beds! They are made of polyester and end up spread all over the yard because the dogs tear them apart. That’s just silly and wasteful.
My husband suggested we make our own this time around. He purchased a large burlap sack, and two bags of cedar shavings. Note that the oil in cedar repels biting insects such as lice, ticks and fleas (it doesn’t kill them, it just repels them).
We poured the shavings into the burlap sack and sewed it up. I used eco-friendly bamboo crochet thread and a leather needle to mend it up, which took all of twenty minutes. Presto! My excited dogs found their new, warm, insect-repelling bed in no time! The best part is, when it is time to retire the bed it can go directly into the compost pile. How is that for eco-friendly?
