South Arlington has never looked so good.
Snuggled between Rt. 50 and Columbia Pike, Penrose is a mere three miles to Washington DC and sits right on the edge of Fort Myer. In the forties and fifties, Penrose would have been considered Central Arlington, but in the last twenty years even, has become known as a more South Arlington location. Recent talk about the potential for a commuter light rail to run up and down the Columbia Pike Corridor has cause more of the Arlington County form based code re-vamping of this corridor, and since 2009, the area known as the Penrose Square redevelopment has really made a splash in the South Arlington district!
After Penrose Square’s completion with a brand new Giant grocery, multiple higher-end restaurants and community gather spots, the property values in the neighborhood of Penrose, shot up nearly twenty percent! This sought-after community offers a fantastic location to be close into the district, Metro Bus stops, and the possibility for a light-rail system by 2017. The Columbia Pike farmer’s market is even just a stone’s throw away for Penrose residents to enjoy. Colonial, Craftsman and Federal-style single family and town homes as well as some duplexes are what you will find the most of in Penrose. The recent -revamping of Columbia Pike has really brought in more multi-family living in the past three to five years, and there are plans for an additional twenty-two multi-family complexes along Columbia Pike for the 2017 plan in the works.
