Get inspired for your next garden
If you haven’t noticed by now, I am an avid organic gardener. Some of my best inspiration comes from just poking around in natural areas, especially parks- finding meandering paths and checking out what native plants grow where.
Every once in a great while, when I feel like I need to be in the know for what is on-trend for my clients needs, as well as my own personal “trendy wellness check up” I take a peek at Houzz.com to see what sort of awesomeness the professionals, other than that of our dear friend Nature, have thrown together. I have collected my favorites here for you to check out and get inspired by, too. I hope you like them!
Top 10 Landscapes for Design Inspiration
Tom Filicia’s Lake House is so stunning, it makes me smile just to peek at it. LOVE. The water element doesn’t hurt either, but the mature growth of the trees and shrubs is gorgeous.
D-CRAIN’s amazingly luscious Mediterranean garden is actually so stunning, that it seems to be like a dream sequence. The layers are perfect and I think this is probably xeriscaped for Austin, which I love.
Scenic Landscape and Design’s fantastic use of sedum and succulents in this simple window box makes this small space
so lovely. It is like they took the items that would be used in a green roof and put them into a small scale planter to remind the homeowner that even small spaces can have color and landscape design, too!
Gast Architect’s gives us another taste of sweet perfection in layering. This outdoor space is certainly xeriscaped and designed to maximize views and textures, which is why it makes the area so inviting.
Blasen Architects has proven that the more traditional landscape design can still have a contemporary or transitional feel with this beautiful yard, which minimizes the lawn space. Remember, the less lawn you have, the more water you save!
Grounds by Design gives me the idea from this serene image that less is more. Sometimes you just have to take what you have and work with that. Apparently this small pond and the rock formations around it lends towards a minimalist approach to landscaping, and that is just fine!
The folks at Carter Rohrer made this little nook of an entrance into something that will have interest during all seasons. The fabulous thing again is all of the variegated hostas and ferns that give such great visual and literal texture to the space. The use of brick with stone make the landscape one of my favorites, too!
I didn’t think that I could fall in love with so many of D-CRAIN’s design plans, but his portfolio is pretty impressive, and I love this front yard that took levels to another level! Native limestone, native cacti and so many different textures make this so beautiful and a wonderful path up to the front of the home.
Matthew Cunningham Landscape Architects use of purple and silver as a key focus in this garden make it charming, inviting and one of my absolute faves! I love that it feels like somewhere you’d wind up in a story book…
One of my all-time-favorite tips for creating a garden or landscape that will be all your own has been utilized here in the Forever Home house by Hurst House. They took a “secret garden” like area in the yard, created a path to it, and then placed a little sitting spot, that seems super-peaceful. It is lush, protected, and simple.
